Birthday greetings at year 5: Your time to step up
The track record is there. How about your support?
The Beatles grew sick of everyone singing the same staid, conventional “Happy Birthday” tune hundreds of times a year, to old and young alike.
So they came up with a rocking version they hoped would replace the familiar anthem:
Turns out theirs didn’t usurp the traditional, though definitely more fun on air guitar.
Amazing Cape musician Patty Larkin had a comparable epiphany, and created another “Happy Birthday” that was gentler, almost a yodel. Around these parts her version has made inroads as candles are blown and cakes cut.
(Hey Patty, I couldn’t find a recording, if you have one send it!)
Why do these melodies come to mind? Because this week A Cape Cod Voice celebrates a birthday, beginning year five.
Four years is no time far as the cosmos is concerned, de minimis as the lawyers would say, “of so little significance that it is not worth considering or taking into account."
Not so, however, if you are a freshman starting high school or college, or counting the days until the next President.
More than 250 Voices have emerged into the world since April, 2021; math mavens will realize that yes, that is more than my typical rhythm of one a week, I’ve added bonus editions.
That’s enough track record to suggest staying power.
And enough evidence to justify judgements about my merits.
To those who receive the Voice and have not subscribed (yet), I’m asking you to make a birthday judgement:
Should A Cape Cod Voice continue? Is A Cape Cod Voice worth $5 a month?
If your answer is yes, then please become a paid subscriber as year five rolls into view.
If your answer is no, drop me a note explaining why. I’d welcome that, maybe use your comments to improve the value of my work.
But back to my preferred response:
