PPP was a catalyst that was successful because of local banks, advisors, accountants and businesses who pulled through a time that shows we can always look forward to better days!
This gives the lie to Reagan's famous negative quote about government -- "I'm from the government and I'm here to help." Always interesting to me that when some kind of a disaster hits, economic or nagural, the naysayers about government always have their hands out for help.
I'm pretty sure that quote was around before Reagan, with variations. I worked at American Red Cross national headquarters in D.C. in the late '70s. We often quoted the three great fallacies: "The check is in the mail," "I'll still respect you in the morning," and "I'm from national headquarters and I'm here to help you." Friends working at various government agencies had their own versions.
Any way you look at it Susanna, it shows that a lot of people have no idea what government does for them. If the services went away, you would hear them howling.
There was also federal grant funding available for rents, mortgages and landlords that was significantly increased during COVID. All the Cape Codders that I helped to apply for this complain about government involvement and vote republican. Most of them also receive SNAP food benefits and Medicare/Medicaid.

Once again, thoughtful, honest, and perceptive.
